Because of the downfall of covid-19 in the Country following the mass vaccination, air companies are starting to get back to the air. The trend for fly tickets price, which got to the lowest level in 20 years in 2020 (R$ 376,29), shows a recovery in some routes.
A ticket from São Paulo to Fortaleza between September 27 and October 2 is been sold on average 28% above in the same period in 2019 (currently is at R$ 1.191). On the same path, a flight to Florianopolis is today 67% more expensive than was before the pandemic (todays’ average is R$ 788), presents Decolar's research.
On the other hand, Decolar’s data shows that some routes, especially the ones related to business travel, are still underpriced. The main example is São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, which is been sell 38% cheaper than before the pandemic (average of R$ 533).
ANAC (the Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency) quoted the recovery of prices on its newest report. According to the regulator, the average fare locally was R$ 388,95 in the second quarter of this year, an increase of 21.7% comparing to the same period of 2020. The recovery, though, was not enough to carry the sector back to 2019 levels - the average price is still 19.98% below Q2 of that year.
According to ANAC, the increase was partly supported by the spike of 91.7% on aviation fuel (called QAV). The comeback of travelers also helped.
Considering the most relevant air companies in the country, tickets sold by Latam has increased 21.3% in the quarter comparing to the same period of 2020. Azul’s fares growth 18.6% and Gol’s 15% in the same metrics.
Price recovery is mostly seen in touristic areas, such as the Northeast of the country. According to air company Latam, the flow of passengers has speeded up after July. “There is a pent-up demand on the segment. Now, those travelers feel more comfortable making plans”.
